Leave the Family Alone!

Just a quick little history about me, my name is Derek D. Butler, I’m 21 years old Republican and this presidential election will be the first in which I will participate.

As many of you already know, this past week the Republican Nominee for President, Sen. John McCain, has finally picked his running mate, Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska. She has proven herself as a first term governor and I believe she will make an excellent Vice President.
When Senator McCain became the Republican candidate, I will be honest with you and say I was not the happiest person in the world. I am very conservative and did not agree with him on everything that he stood for. But when he announced his running mate on Friday, I was much happier.
Yesterday, September 2, 2008, it came to the attention of the media that Gov. Palin’s 17 year old daughter, Bristol, is now five months pregnant.

This is most likely the only time you will ever hear me say this, but I actually agreed with Obama. According to an article on cnn.com he had the following statement:
"Let me be as clear as possible," Obama said. "I think people's families are off-limits, and people's children are especially off-limits. This shouldn't be part of our politics. It has no relevance to Gov. Palin's performance as governor or her potential performance as a vice president."

I agree with him completely. Bristol is not running for the VP spot. Many Democrats thought that the Conservative Right would not like this situation at all. In my opinion this shows ever more that Gov. Palin is pro-life and pro-family.
Some bloggers came out yesterday saying that the Palin’s younger son, Trig, is actually the son of Bristol. Please, people come on! How low will you go! If this was true how in the world could she have given birth in April and now already 5 months pregnant? There is no physical way that this could happen. Some people have no boundaries when it comes to politics! Stay away from political families, no matter what side of the aisle they may reside.

Today on huffingtonpost.com they baby’s father was revealed. I’m not even going to mention his name because he especially has nothing to do with this political race. According to the site, the New York Times even has quotes from the young man’s MySpace page. Back off people! In the article by the New York Times, they have even tried to call the young man for a comment. My issue with the NY Times is another blog all together. Show some respect here. Bristol Palin didn’t have the choice to choose her parent’s profession. On foxnews.com, Meghan McCain had this to say:
“It’s a rough go being the son or daughter of a politician. I have not known Bristol Palin very long, but there is a certain kinship I feel to her as I do other political daughters such as Chelsea Clinton, Jenna and Barbara Bush and Mary Cheney. You can’t fully understand it unless you have lived it. So I just wanted to let it be known that I support Bristol and the entire Palin family.”

Let it be known, I fully support the McCain/Palin ticket! In the past few days, Gov. Palin has shown that she truly cares for her family and that she stands behind her word that she is pro-life.
James Dobson of Focus on the Family said this:
"In the 32-year history of Focus on the Family, we have offered prayer, counseling and resource assistance to tens of thousands of parents and children in the same situation the Palins are now facing. We have always encouraged the parents to love and support their children and always advised the girls to see their pregnancies through, even though there will of course be challenges along the way. That is what the Palins are doing, and they should be commended once again for not just talking about their pro-life and pro-family values, but living them out even in the midst of trying circumstances.
"Being a Christian does not mean you're perfect. Nor does it mean your children are perfect. But it does mean there is forgiveness and restoration when we confess our imperfections to the Lord. I've been the beneficiary of that forgiveness and restoration in my own life countless times, as I'm sure the Palins have.
"The media are already trying to spin this as evidence Gov. Palin is a 'hypocrite,' but all it really means is that she and her family are human. They are in my prayers and those of millions of Americans."

Thank you Dr. Dobson! One of the most conservative people in the country still backing Gov. Palin. As I have said before, Gov. Palin is the one up for election, not Bristol. I fully support the Palin family right now as they go through this private family time.

I have also heard some say that she is more likely to back out of the race now that her daughter’s pregnancy in known to the public. I think not. I think Gov. Palin can handle all the crap that the media throws her way. I leave you with this, I heard Gov. Palin say “We have a saying in Alaska; do you know the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull? Lipstick!” More power to you Gov. Palin! This only proves that she is a woman of her word. Remember this, no matter how you look at it, I’m always on the right side. Something to think about!
